MLB Preview 2020:
Finally my betting friends we have sports again
in 2020. I'm Eddie J working with Betvegasnow.com here to give you
some great sports info and betting nuggets to win you some $ in
In this preview I'll show you some value on Team totals in this
shortened 60 game season as well as give you some teams to back and
fade. I'll also give you my divisional picks and WS winner.
First let's breakdown some rule changes and COVID-19 info!
1- 2020 will bring the DH to the NL for the first time in history.
It may or not stick in future years but lets cover it for 2020. As a
OV/UND player how many times can u recall a rally ending with the
pitcher up? It's almost an auto out. I see the DH a 1 run per game
value to the total. It will also provide an advantage to NL teams
with a slugger on the bench!
2-Relief pitcher Rule will take away the situational lefty matchup
as all relievers must face 3 hitters when they enter the game or the
inning ends. You can start a new pitcher the following inning if
your reliever didn't face 3 hitters but did finish the inning. This
will have a lot of managers alternate their LRLR lineups.
3-The extra inning rule puts a base runner on second in each top and
bottom half of an inning until the game is completed. This will save
teams from marathon extra inning games but will involve new
strategies for managers such as more bunting and intentional walks.
This could provide value for O/U bets as well if you need a couple
runs in a tied game.
4- Covid -19 will be a variable you have to keep your eye on. Teams
will carry 30 players initially with rosters decreasing as the
season progresses. Each team will carry a taxi squad in case of
positive tests of covid. We have seen so far once players have
passed their initial screening they have seemed to be ok but you
never know with traveling. Also players returning be weary of their
stamina and productivity,
5-Teams will play with no fans at their home ballparks except for
the Blue Jays who will play in a variety of parks since Toronto
won't allow them to play in Canada.
6- Teams will play 60 games 40 vs divisional rivals and 20 vs
interleague opponents in their opposite league division. i.e east vs
east central vs central.
NL East (projected O/U)
Atlanta Braves (33.5) UNDER
The Braves return a dangerous lineup featuring Ronald Acuna Jr,
Freddie Freeman, and newly acquired Marcell Ozuna. The two time
defending divisional winners will hit especially at home but are
still looking for young pitchers to be more consistent. Mike Soroka
and Mike Foltynewicz will front end the rotation. The bullpen is a
little shaky for the Braves.
Washington Nationals (33) UNDER
The defending champs feature their usual horses Max Scherzer, Steven
Strasburg, Patrick Corbin also adding depth to their pen by adding
Astros stalwart Will Harris. The Nats are led by Juan Soto and Trea
Turner but losing MLB RBI leader Anthony Rendon will sting.
Philadelphia Phillies (31.5) OVER
I love the Phillies outlook for this shortened season not only
because I'm a Phillies fan but the coaching and team personnel. Joe
Girardi leads a staff featuring Bryan Price as pitching coach. The
Phils who upgraded in offseason with acquisitions of Didi Gregorious
and SP Zach Wheeler lost a ton of late leads due to coaching
inexperience. The young arms will thrive under Price's tutledge and
Girardi will lead the Phils to the playoffs. Bryce Harper, a
notorious fast starter, may win MVP in 2020.
New York Mets (31.5) OVER
The Mets if healthy feature a great bullpen with
Familia,Betances,Lugo, and Edwin Diaz. In a short season they could
help the Mets win some ball games. Two time reigning Cy Young winner
Jacob Degrom will lead a staff missing Noah Synergaard for the
season. The DH will benefit the Mets giving Yoenis Cespedes AB's.
Miami Marlins (24.5) OVER
The Fish should improve and may play spoiler in this sprint of a
season. Veterans such as Jonathan Villar, Jesus Aguilar, and Corey
Dickerson will improve an offense that ranked dead last in most
statistical categories last season. Young arms in the rotation and
bullpen will gain valuable experience and help the Marlins compete.
Chicago Cubs (32.5) UNDER
The Cubs will be led by former Cub David Ross. The Cubs are still
formidable with the likes of Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Javy
Baez but the pitching isn't there for the Cubs. Yu Darvish has been
inconsistent while the bullpen had been atrocious. I see the Cubs
having a down year and big changes in the off season.
Cincinnati Reds (31.5) OVER
The Reds are my surprise pick to win the NL Central. The Reds are
led by Trevor Bauer and Sonny Grey on the bump. The pen led by CP
Rasiel Iglesias is nasty while they upgraded a potent offense with
the addition of Nicholas Castellanos and Mike Moustakas.
St.Louis Cardinals (31.5) UNDER
The Cards feature a young studded staff led by Jack Flaherty and
Dakota Hudson. Pitching won't be a problem for the Cards but the
hitting will be inconsistent. The Cards lost Marcell Ozuna while
other hitters are aging. I see the Cards on the outside looking in
on the playoffs.
Milwaukee Brewers (30.5) OVER
The Brewers led by Christian Yelich will try and get over the hump.
The Crew added Avasail Garcia and will be in the wild card race but
pitching will be their downfall.
Pittsburgh Pirates (25.5) UNDER
The Bucs will struggle with a young lineup and young hurlers. They
struggled in the spring going 3-16 and They will reside in the
basement. Brian Reynolds might battle for the batting crown tho.
LA Dodgers (38) OVER
The Dodgers are Co FAVS to win WS and they look to keep their string
of division titles going. They dominated in 3 summer camp games and
with Mookie Betts joining the mix watch out they might be
unstoppable. Kershaw is a year older and they lost SP RYU but the
bullpen should be solid and young Depth should keep the Dodgers deep
Arizona Dbacks (31) UNDER
The Dbacks added Madison Bumgarner in the offseason to join Robbie
Ray in the rotation. The D'backs with a premier bullpen should
compete for a wild card.
San Diego Padres (30.5) OVER
The Padres are a lot of people's sleeper and I see why with the
young influx of talent led by Fernando Tatis JR. Manny Machado
should bounce back from a 2019 down year and Chris Paddock leads a
solid pitching staff. SD will be in the wild card mix.
Colorado Rockies (27.5) OVER
The Rockies are a dangerous team in a shortened season. Last year
thru 60 they were a playoff team before a late collapse. The Rockies
will bash and may steal a wildcard.
SF Giants (25) UNDER
The Giants say goodbye to Bruce Bochy and welcome Gabe Mr Positivity
Kapler. Gabe was decent with Philly but his inexperience showed. The
Giants will be without Buster Posey in 2019 and lost Madison
Bumgarner in offseason. It will be a rebuilding year for SF.
NY Yankees (37.5) UNDER
The Yanks are the AL Favorite and Co-FAV to win the WS. The Covid
-19 break actually helped the Yanks get healthy. Aaron Judge and
Giancarlo Stanton will finally get to bash together. FYI they have
only both hit a HR in a Yankees game one time due to various
injuries for both. The Yanks got the prize of the offseason signing
SP Gerrit Cole. The Yanks bullpen is elite and the lineup is
stacked. Yanks will go deep.
Tampa Bay Rays (34) UNDER
Vegas is high on the Rays and they should compete for the playoffs
due to their style of play. The Opener and usage of their pitching
unique to many may become the norm in this short season.
Boston Red Sox (32) UNDER
The Bo Sox lost Mookie Betts but still have plenty of firepower. The
Sox will be without Chris Sale all season and the Pen is shaky. Red
Sox will look great some nights but blow too many games to play in
Toronto Blue Jays (27.5) OVER
The Jays could shock some teams with thier young core of JRS (Guerrero,Biggio,Bichette)
Young Stud SP Pearson could crack the rotation led by Hyun Jin Ryu.
The Jays will play all their games away from Toronto this could
bring the team together.
Baltimore Orioles (20.5) OVER
Projected to be the worst team in MLB, The Orioles have some young
talent. SP John Means was an All star last year. The O's are still
rebuilding but will upset some teams this season.
Minnesota Twins (34) OVER
The Twins who broke the all time HR record last season will mash
again adding Josh Donaldson to the mix. They also added veteran SP
Kenta Maeda and Homer Bailey. I love the Twins this season.
Cleveland Indians (32.5) OVER
The Tribe have solid SP led by Mike Clevinger and Shane Bieber.
Francisco Lindor will lead a potent lineup. The Tribe will compete
for the wildcard and be in the mix in a 3 horse race in the Central.
Chicago White Sox (31.5) OVER
The Chi Sox added Yasmami Grandal, Edwin Encarnacion, Dallas Kuechel
in a off season spending spree. Those signings complement a
dangerous young core. The Sox if healthy will compete for playoffs.
KC Royals (25) UNDER
KC will continue to rebuild but have some veterans to make things
interesting. Merrifield, Perez, Soler and New add Maikel Franco will
keep Royals games watchable.
Detroit Tigers (22) UNDER
Ron Gardenhire added some Vets (CJ Cron, Johnathan Schoop, and
Austin Romine) to the mix. Tigers have a dominant young staff but
still a year or two a way. Lots of losses in motown.
Houston Astros (35) OVER
The Astros got off the hook with no fans in attendance and it may
let them thrive. Verlander,Grienke, and Mccullers will lead the
staff and the lineup is still one of the best in MLB .Look for young
stud Yordan Alvarez to lead the league in HR's.
Oakland A's (32.5) UNDER
The A's bring back a solid playoff team but they seem to get off to
slow starts. In this 60 game season every game matters.
LA Angels (31.5) OVER
The Angels signed MLB RBI leader Anthony Rendon to go with Mike
Trout and co. Shohei Ohtani will pitch again on Sunday's. Joe Maddon
leads the Halos now and young pitching will be the wildcard.
Texas Rangers (28.5) OVER
The Rangers open a new park and have a couple new faces in the
rotation led by Corey Kluber. The Rangers can hit and their SP will
keep them in games but can the pen close out leads.
Seattle Mariners (23.5) UNDER
The Mariners are in rebuild mode and will finish last in this
division but keep in mind they started 22-9 last season that will
help in a short season but I don't see it happening again.
MY Playoff predictions....
WC - Angels and White Sox
WC -Mets and Brewers
WS Phillies over Twins in 6
(My GUT LOL)
Dodgers over Yankees in 7
