2020-04-23 - 2020 NFL Draft - Live results - 1st Round - Assessments

Round 1:

Pick 1: Cincinnati Bengals select Joe Burrow - LSU - QB - Bengals made the no brainer smart pick - Grade A+

Pick 2: Washington Redskins select Chase Young - DL  - Ohio State - Young is the best player in this draft - Grade A+

Pick 3: Detroit Lions select Jeff Okudah - CB - Ohio State - Solid ball player who will really help in the Detroit secondary but Lions probably could have moved down a few picks to get him at 5 or 6 - Grade B-

Pick 4: NY Giants select Andrew Thomas - OT - Georgia - Tackles are very important but high risk this high in the draft. A bit of a head scratcher selection. Should have moved down if this is their guy - Grade F

Pick 5: Miami Dolphins select Tua Tagovailoa - QB - Alabama - We all know Miami needs a QB but I think Tua is way over-rated. Reminds me of Teddy Bridgewater who had great weapons all around him in college. My rap is he is too short and too injury prone. NFL defenders are a lot bigger than college ones. Miami better get a good back up too - They bought into the hype - Grade B-

Pick 6: LA Chargers select Justin Herbert - QB - Oregon - I love this pick. Herbert has NFL size at 6'-6". He can see the field. I think he should have gone ahead of Tua. Miami is going to regret passing on this guy. Chargers and their fans get a steal at #6 - Grade A+

Pick 7: Carolina Panthers select Derrick Brown - DT - Auburn - This is a large man who is going to wreck havoc in the NFL. He dominates everyone - Grade A

Pick 8: Arizona Cardinals select Isaiah Simmons - OLB - Clemson - This guy is an all over the field, multi-dimensional, smart, defensive player - Grade A

Pick 9: Jacksonville Jaguars select CJ Henderson - CB - Florida - Great size, extremely athletic, tracks well, solid tackler - Grade B

Pick 10: Cleveland Browns select Jedrick Wills Jr - OT - Alabama - A dominating right tackle. A bit too high of a pick for a RT unless that is your #1 need. But then I have never been a fan of high first round offensive lineman picks other than a huge left tackle who is left handed and fast. Too many OL end up busts - Grade C+

Pick 11: New York Jets select Mekhi Becton - OT - Louisville - This guy is a man. A huge man. I worry about just how huge he may get. Nice pick but I personally think they should have taken Ceedee Lamb - Grade: B+

Pick 12: Las Vegas Raiders select Henry Ruggs III - WR - Alabama - Super fast WR but probably the third best WR in this draft behind Ceedee Lamb and Jeudy - Grade B-

Pick 13: San Francisco trades down one spot with Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay Buccaneers selects Tristan Wirfs - OT - Iowa - Great pick. Best pass blocker in the draft. Buc's are loaded on offense. They just became the legitimate NFC top contender for 2020. Going to be real tough to beat, if Brady stays healthy - Pick A++

Pick 14: San Francisco 49ers select Javon Kinlaw - DT - South Carolina - The 49ers filled a hole but should have moved down for this guy. Too high of a pick. Another bad move passing on Lamb or Jeudy. - Grade D

Pick 15: Denver Broncos select Jerry Jeudy - WR - Alabama - Finally a team with some sense. This guy is a super wide out. He will take it to the house. Great pick - Grade A+

Pick 16: Atlanta Falcons select A.J. Terrell - CB - Clemson - Great player. Solid Pick, but Atlanta could have traded down a few slots and still got him. I am expecting WR needy teams could have traded up into that slot giving Atlanta an additional decent pick - Grade C+

Pick 17: Dallas Cowboys select CeeDee Lamb - WR - Oklahoma - Big, fast, elusive. Should have gone in the top 10. A total steal here - Grade A+

Pick 18: Miami Dolphins select Austin Jackson - OT - USC - Tackles are a premium but a bit too high of a pick. Miami is another team who should have traded down a few slots to one of the WR needy teams or taken a WR - Grade D

Pick 19: Las Vegas Raiders select Damon Arnette - CB - Ohio State - The second best CB from OSU is a bit of a reach here - Grade C-

Pick 20: Jacksonville Jaguars select K'Lavon Chaisson - LB - LSU - A need pick of a very solid player that makes sense but not the best player available - Grade B

Pick 21: Philadelphia Eagles select Jaedon Reagor - WR - TCU - Not the best guy on the board. Eagles were foolish to not trade up from here - D-

Pick 22: Minnesota Vikings select Justin Jefferson - WR - LSU - A great ball player. The guy the Vikings wanted all along - Grade A+

Pick 23: New England trades down with Los Angeles Chargers who select Kenneth Murray JR - ILB - Oklahoma - Great all around player - Grade B

Pick 24: New Orleans Saints select - Cesar Ruiz - C - Michigan - First center off of the board - Need pick but not best player available - Grade C

Pick 25: Minnesota Vikings trade down with San Francisco 49ers. 49ers select Brandon Anyuk - WR - Arizona State - Solid need pick but not real tall. Wasted picks trading up - Grade C-

Pick 26: Miami traded this pick to Green Bay (for #30 and TBD). Green Bay selects Jordan Love - QB - Utah State - An excellent player but not what the Pack needs the most right now, a raw QB to get slivers in his butt riding the bench for a year or two. Not win now thinking - Grade C-

Pick 27: Seattle Seahawks select Jordyn Brooks - ILB - Texas Tech - A big and very solid player. He will really help Seattle D. He is an impact player but may have been taken a bit too high here - Grade B-

Pick 28: Baltimore Ravens select Patrick Queen - ILB - LSU - I kind of thought they would take a nose tackle here but the guys right behind the nose tackle will help reinforce the middle. Played money ball in national championship game. Very athletic but may be a bit raw - Grade B

Pick 29: Tennessee Titans select Isaiah Wilson - OT - Georgia - Massive right tackle - Grade B

Pick 30: Green Bay traded this pick to Miami for the #26 pick. Miami Dolphins select Noah Igbinoghene - CB - Auburn - 33% completion percentage against this guy in college. Great pick - Grade A+

Pick 31: San Francisco traded this pick to MN for #25, TBD) Minnesota Vikings select Jeff Gladney - CB - TCU - Plays inside or outside very well. A stud. He isn't really tall but he covers a lot of space, tackles well and is a huge need fit here for MN. I thought they might take him at 25 but they chose wisely moving down, picking up a pick and getting their guy - Grade A+

Pick 32: Kansas City Chiefs select Clyde Edwards-Helaire - RB - LSU - Beast. A little guy who can roll. It will be tough seeing this guy coming through the offensive line. KC is loaded on offense - Grade A
